400L Copper Column Still: Where It Fits
We build this 400L copper column still for distilleries that need a real step up from pilot runs without committing to a 1000L steam plant. A 400L boiler takes about 350–380L of wash, depending on foam and headspace. On an 8–10 hour run, expect roughly 30–45L of 40% spirit; stripping runs move faster. Customers often choose 400L when 200L is too slow for weekly sales, but 500L or 1000L would tie up too much capital or need a boiler they do not have.
Heating is the first decision. Electric is simple where you have 60–80kW available. Steam gives steadier heat for grain-in rye or bourbon washes, and we normally build the jacket for 3–4 bar working pressure. Copper contact is not a decoration. We put copper in the column, onion, lyne arm, and condenser tubes. A stainless boiler with a copper column costs less and still puts copper where sulfur compounds bind. For gin, a column gin basket works; for thick mash, add an agitator. CIP spray ball, reflux plates, parrot, and proofing condenser are available.

Before quoting, send wash type, batch ABV, target liters per week, power or steam pressure, ceiling height, door width, cooling water temperature, and local code. Those details change column diameter, plate count, and condenser size more than capacity alone.
