Description

Where horizontal serving tanks earn their space

A horizontal bright beer tank holds finished, carbonated beer at serving temperature until it goes to kegs, cans, or the tap wall. Laying the shell on its side drops overall height by roughly a third compared with a vertical tank of the same volume. In basement cellars, container-built taprooms, and rooms where the glycol header already eats 300 mm of ceiling, that difference decides whether the tank fits at all.

We build this platform in 500 L, 7 BBL (about 820 L), and 1000 L shells. Same fittings, same jacket design, different shell length and cooling area.

Materials and fabrication

Wetted surfaces are 304 stainless as standard. Going to 316L is worth the upcharge when your water runs high in chloride or you brew sours and mixed-fermentation beers in the same cellar. Shell and dished ends are 3 mm; internal welds are ground, polished, and passivated to Ra 0.6–0.8 µm. The dimple jacket is welded across the lower third of the shell, where the beer actually sits, and covered with 80 mm of polyurethane foam under 304 cladding with a #4 brushed finish.

Points we raise before quoting

  • Drainage. A horizontal shell needs a 1–2% pitch or an offset bottom outlet. Without it, CIP solution and the last few liters of beer pool in the belly of the tank.
  • Pressure. Standard working pressure is 1.5 bar, hydro-tested at 3 bar, with an adjustable safety valve and gauge on the top. Carbonating at 2.5 volumes at 2 °C needs about 1.2 bar — leave margin.
  • CIP and carbonation. A rotating spray ball sits at top center, opposite the drain, run at 1.5–2 bar. A carbonation stone through a dedicated port carbonates faster than head pressure alone.

FAQ

Can it double as a fermenter? No. Jacket area is sized for holding temperature, not for crashing 20 °C of fermentation heat.

How many serving tanks do I need? Count tap lines, then add one for rotation. A 7 BBL tank fills about 20 sixtels.

Lead time and shipping? 500 L and 7 BBL units ship in a 20 ft container, three to a load.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
