Description

What a 100 HL Brite Tank Does on the Cold Side

By the time beer reaches a brite tank, fermentation is finished. The vessel\’s job is the last stretch: settling out remaining yeast, carbonating to target, and holding the beer cold and stable until it leaves for kegs, cans, or a tanker. A 100 HL (10 T) tank typically sits between a 100 HL fermenter and the packaging line, which is why volume, cooling surface, and pressure rating have to be sized around your packaging rhythm rather than the brewhouse.

How We Build It

Shell and cone are fabricated from SUS304 as standard, with 316L offered where chloride-heavy cleaning or acidic fruit additions are routine. Inner shell runs 3 mm, dimple cooling jackets are welded to both the cylindrical shell and the cone, and the body is insulated with 80–100 mm polyurethane under brushed 304 cladding. Product-contact welds are full-penetration TIG, ground, and passivated. Interior finish is Ra ≤ 0.6 μm when the beer is hop-forward or the tank will be used for long cold storage.

Isobaric service is what separates this tank from a fermenter. Inner vessel working pressure is normally 3 bar, jacket 3 bar, with a certified safety valve, pressure gauge, and sample valve supplied as part of the unit — not as extras added after the quote. Carbonation runs through a stone on a dedicated low port; a racking arm sits above it so you can pull clear beer without disturbing the yeast layer.

Standard Fittings

  • 450 mm top manway, CIP spray ball, and dry-hop port
  • Adjustable pressure relief valve and CO2 blow-off
  • Racking arm, carb stone port, level gauge, thermowell
  • DIN or tri-clamp connections, glycol inlet/outlet with baffle plates
  • Adjustable legs or skirt, forklift-safe base on larger frames

Questions We Get Before Ordering

Should the tank be 304 or 316L?

304 covers most ale and lager production. Choose 316L if you package sour beer, use chlorinated caustic at high concentration, or store beer for months.

Do I need a separate carbonation tank?

At this size, carbonating in the brite tank is common and avoids oxygen pickup from transfers. A dedicated carbonation vessel makes sense only when you run continuous high-volume packaging.

What cooling capacity is required?

Budget roughly 1.5–2 kW of glycol capacity per 10 HL of tank volume for crash cooling, and confirm your chiller can hold 1–2 °C at the outlet.

How is CIP handled?

The spray ball is sized for 2–3 bar supply pressure with flow matched to tank diameter. Confirm your pump delivers the required flow before commissioning.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
