Description
Most clean-in-place headaches we get called about are not pump problems. A skid that cleans a 20,000 L tank perfectly can fail on a long return line with three dead legs, no matter how large the pump. So before quoting tanks, we ask for the circuit: pipe diameter, return-line slope, drain points, spray ball coverage, and how long lines sit idle between runs.
What happens during a wash cycle
A typical sequence runs pre-rinse, alkaline wash near 70–80 °C, intermediate rinse, acid wash at 55–65 °C, final rinse, and a sanitizing step using the chemistry your quality team has approved. Caustic recovery and final-rinse water reuse are where plants usually find savings, and that decision changes tank count, so settle it early.
Tank count, heating, and controls
One tank suits simple rinse-and-caustic loops. Two tanks keep caustic separate from acid or rinse water. Three- and four-tank units hold hot water and recovered rinse independently, letting you switch recipes without dumping chemistry. Heating comes from electric immersion elements or a steam heat exchanger; steam costs less to run but needs a dependable supply and condensate return. Supply and return pumps are sized on main-line velocity, usually around 1.5 m/s, not on nameplate flow.
Control level drives the rest. Manual valves are fine for a single circuit run by one operator. With multiple recipes, PLC control plus temperature, flow, pressure, and level monitoring earns its cost in repeatability and in the records auditors request.

Where these systems run
Dairy receiving lines and pasteurizers, beverage and brewery transfer mains, tanker bays, distillery washbacks, sauce and liquid-food kettles, cosmetic blending suites, and pharmaceutical process piping. Cleaning parameters and validation documentation stay with your quality group; we build to the circuit you specify.
Common questions
Can we add a tank later? Often yes, if the skid frame and pump headroom are planned at the start. Retrofits get expensive when piping is welded tight.
How much flow do we need? Enough to hold velocity in the largest main and wet the farthest spray device. Give us the drawing and we will calculate it.
Do we need conductivity monitoring? It helps when one operator runs several circuits and needs a clear end-of-wash signal.

Customer Review
We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
