Description

What a 10–15 BBL system actually has to do

A 10 BBL brewhouse puts about 1,170 L of wort in the kettle per turn; 15 BBL lands near 1,750 L. The number that decides your configuration is not kettle volume but turns per day and how many fermenters you can feed. Brewers who size on the kettle alone usually run short on cold-side capacity within two seasons.

Fabrication details worth arguing about

Shells are SUS304 as standard. We switch the wort contact side to SUS316L when the cellar sees chloride-based sanitation or high-acid styles. Kettle shell runs 3 mm, fermenter body 2–3 mm, dished tops and 60° cone bottoms with 25% headspace. Interior welds are purged, ground and passivated; fermenter interior finish holds Ra ≤ 0.6 µm. Exterior is brushed or mirror polished — brushed hides the scratches a working cellar puts on a tank.

Dimple jackets cover the cone and lower cylinder in two or three zones. On a tall 15 BBL tank, a single jacket leaves warm wort stranded at the top and crash cooling takes twice as long.

Pressure, CIP and piping

Fermenters are rated 15–30 psi working pressure, with a certified relief valve set below design pressure and a separate CIP/racking arm. Cleaning relies on a rotating spray ball fed at 1.5–2 bar; the pump curve matters more than the ball. All ports are tri-clamp DIN or SMS, so your existing hoses, sight glasses and carbonation stones will fit.

Questions that come up before a quote

Can one system run ales and lagers? Yes, provided the jacket area and chiller capacity cover a 1°C/day lager pull-down. That is a glycol calculation, not a vessel one.

When do we need cone-bottom tanks? For any batch where you crop yeast and drop trub. Open square fermenters still make sense for cask ale, but they will not hold pressure for carbonation.

How much floor space? Allow service clearance at the manway and 1 m at the jacket connections; nobody wants to pull a racking arm against a wall.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
