What a 500L copper still actually gives you
Most 500L orders we ship come from distilleries that have outgrown a 200L or 300L pot but aren\’t ready to run a 1000L system every day. A 500L kettle holds 450–480L of wash at 8% ABV, which usually lands somewhere around 35–45L of spirit per run depending on how you cut. That\’s roughly two strips a week for a small crew.

Where the copper should be
We keep the kettle, swan neck, lyne arm, and condenser shell in copper. Sulfur compounds bind to that surface during the run, which is why Scotch distilleries stayed on copper pots long after cheaper metals showed up. Manhole and flange rings we normally supply in stainless — copper flanges warp faster under repeated heat cycling.
Steam or electric?
This splits buyers fast. Electric is simpler if you already have 380V three-phase and no boiler on site. Steam gives smoother heat input and less scorching on grain-in washes. Tell us which way you\’re going before we quote, because the jacket and element layout are different builds.
Before we quote
Send us the wash you plan to run, target liters per week, ceiling height, and available utilities. Want a gin basket, agitator, or a custom condenser? Say so now. Welding a new flange onto a finished kettle costs more than designing it in from the start.
