Description

A wine tank that has to move is a different animal from one that stays bolted to a cellar floor. These 800L to 5000L jacketed vessels sit on a reinforced channel base with forklift pockets welded directly into the frame, so a full tank can be shifted between cellar bays, loaded onto a flatbed, or staged outside during harvest without being drained first. Most of our orders for this configuration come from wineries that crush in one building and ferment in another, and from contract producers who move tanks between client sites.

How we build them

Shell and dish ends are 304 or 316L. We use 3mm plate on the 800L and 1000L, and 4mm from 2000L upward, since a 5000L tank carries roughly six tons of must and the base has to take the load at four lift points rather than across a full floor ring. Dimple cooling jackets cover the shell, with an optional cone jacket if you need to hold temperature during cold soak. Every jacket is laser welded and hydro-tested at 6 bar before the insulation goes on. Internal welds are ground flush, pickled and passivated to Ra ≤0.8μm on wine contact surfaces. Insulation runs 50mm on the small sizes and 80mm on the 5000L, with a 304 satin or mirror outer shell.

Standard fittings are a top manway, CIP spray ball, racking arm, sample valve, analog or digital thermometer, and 1.5in or 2in tri-clamp for racking, CIP and glycol. Forklift entry is 200mm high on the 800L and 1000L, 250mm on larger units.

Capacity Jacket area Forklift entry Typical use
800L 2.2 m² 200 mm Trial lots, small winery
1000L 2.6 m² 200 mm Single-varietal batches
2000L 4.5 m² 250 mm Commercial fermentation
5000L 8.8 m² 250 mm Blending, bulk storage

Questions we get before quoting

Can I lift a full tank? Yes, but tell us your forklift capacity and fork length. A full 5000L tank with must is around 5.5 tons, and forks shorter than the base frame will point-load the channels.

Is 316L necessary? For wine, 304 is normally enough. 316L makes sense with high chloride cleaning agents or coastal sites.

Do I need a cone jacket? Only if you crash-cool or ferment in a warm room. Shell jackets handle most temperature control.

Send us your batch size, the number of tanks you need, glycol supply temperature and the forklift you plan to use. We will size the jacket area and base frame to match.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
