Description

2000L Open Top Fermentation Tank

This tank is built for producers who need a straightforward, reliable fermentation vessel. Whether you are making wine, kombucha, or other food ferments, the open top design gives you direct access for cap management, fruit additions, and manual punch-downs. The PLC core controls the cooling loop automatically, so you don\’t have to babysit the temperature.

We fabricate the tank from SUS304 as standard, with SUS316L available for aggressive washdowns or high-chloride environments. The interior is mechanically polished to a 0.6 μm Ra finish, and every weld is TIG welded and ground smooth. The dimple plate cooling jacket is formed from the same stainless grade and welded to the shell, giving you a large heat-transfer area without adding unnecessary bulk. That matters when you need to cool 2000 L down from fermentation to cellar temperature in a reasonable window.

The tank comes with a gasketed lid (removable), a bottom outlet with butterfly valve, a thermometer pocket, and a CIP spray ball as standard. The PLC module regulates a solenoid valve that controls cold-water or glycol flow through the jacket. Set your target – say 18°C for an ale – and the system holds within ±0.5°C.

This is not a pressure-rated vessel. Working pressure is 0.1 bar, so do not use it for carbonated products or processes that require positive pressure. If that is your need, we offer cone-bottom pressure tanks separately. For wine, kombucha, and many top-fermented beers, an open top is the right call because it lets CO₂ escape naturally and simplifies cap management.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use a dimple plate instead of a coil? Dimple plate offers a larger surface area per unit length, which means faster cooling with a lower coolant volume. It also avoids internal dead zones that can cause temperature stratification.

Can I use this for beer? Yes, for ales and other top-fermented styles that don\’t require pressure. For lagers or sparkling products, you\’ll need a cone bottom pressure-rated tank.

How do I clean it? The spray ball is sized for a standard CIP cycle. We recommend a caustic wash at 80°C for 30 minutes, followed by an acid rinse. The open top also allows manual inspection and scrubbing if needed.

What is the warranty? We provide a 3-year warranty on the tank shell and welding, and a 1-year warranty on the PLC unit.

Buying Guide

Before you request a quote, we need to know your batch size, product type, available floor space, and whether you have a glycol or cold-water source. Also tell us if you need a lid, manhole, or extra ports. With those details, we can confirm the exact cooling area, jacket configuration, and whether a different tank volume would serve you better.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank model, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
