Description

Sizing a brite tank against your packaging schedule

A brite tank holds beer after fermentation, once carbonation is set and the product is waiting on the filler. The three volumes here — 500 L, 800 L, 1000 L — map to different production rhythms. A 500 L tank suits a taproom kegging twice a week. At 1000 L you are usually feeding a canning line or a distributor, and you want the tank to empty within one or two packaging runs instead of sitting half full under pressure for a week.

The rule we give customers: match the brite tank to roughly one day of packaging volume, or to a single fermentation batch you plan to transfer without splitting. Splitting one transfer across two tanks costs dissolved CO2 and adds oxygen pickup.

Build details

Shells are 3 mm SUS304 as standard. We move to 316L when the water supply runs high in chloride, or when the same tank will see sour and fruited beer. Interior welds are ground, pickled and passivated. A 2B mill finish is standard; internal polishing to 0.4–0.8 µm is available for breweries chasing cleaner microbiology.

Cooling comes from dimple-plate jackets on the shell, with an optional jacket on the bottom dish for faster crash cooling. 80 mm polyurethane insulation holds temperature with glycol at 28–30 °F.

Working pressure and safety

Design pressure is 3 bar, working pressure 2 bar. Every tank ships with a pressure relief valve set at the design limit, an analog gauge and a sample valve. Do not cap or plug the relief valve to speed carbonation — the carb stone and CO2 regulator handle that, not a blocked valve.

FAQ

Can I carbonate in the tank itself? Yes. A carb stone port is standard, and carbonation is normally done at 2 bar with the beer held near 32 °F for faster absorption.

Do I need a racking arm? If you package straight from the tank, yes. It lets you draw clear beer above the yeast layer instead of pulling sediment into the filler.

What utilities are required? Glycol supply and return, regulated CO2, and a CIP circuit. A 1000 L tank typically needs 1.5–2 kW of glycol cooling capacity.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
