Description

Horizontal Bright Beer Tanks, 1000L to 5000L

A bright beer tank is usually the last vessel beer touches before the keg line or filler. We build ours as a true pressure vessel with a dimple-plate glycol jacket, offered from 1000L to 5000L, and we pair it with a PLC panel and transfer pump when the brewhouse layout needs one.

Why horizontal instead of another unitank

Ceiling height decides this more often than anything else. A lot of urban taprooms and basement cellars top out around 2.4 m, and a 2000L horizontal tank with legs and fittings still clears that. The trade-off is floor area: sediment, dry-hop particles and yeast spread across a wider bottom, so we weld the outlet at the true low point and set the vessel on adjustable feet. Slope, racking arm position and drain height matter more here than on a vertical tank.

Materials and fabrication

Inner shell is 3 mm SUS304 as standard. We switch to 316L for sour programs, fruit additions or breweries running aggressive caustic CIP cycles. Outer cladding is 2 mm, insulated with 80–100 mm injected polyurethane and skinned in satin or mirror-polished stainless. Longitudinal and circumferential seams are TIG welded, fully penetrated, ground flush on the product side, then pickled and passivated after hydro testing at 1.5× design pressure.

Pressure and cooling

Working pressure is 2 bar, design 3 bar, with the relief valve sized to the vessel rather than to whatever pump gets connected downstream. Jackets run in two or three independent zones so you can crash a full tank without icing the lower section. Glycol inlet and outlet are 1.5 in tri-clamp, and the PLC handles temperature, pump sequencing and CIP timing.

Questions we get before quoting

Can one tank serve fermentation and conditioning? Yes, but a horizontal bright tank is not a substitute for a unitank with a cone. If you need yeast cropping, keep conical vessels upstream.

Is 316L necessary? Only if your beer or your cleaning chemicals demand it. Many breweries run 304 for years without pitting.

How is CIP handled? Spray ball on a 1.5 in or 2 in tri-clamp port, return line to the pump, PLC-timed cycles. Confirm your caustic concentration with us before commissioning.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
