Description
Where a 1000L BBT Fits in a Craft Brewery
A 1000L bright beer tank is not just a holding vessel. It is the last controlled step before kegs, cans, or bottles. After primary fermentation, brewers move beer into the BBT for carbonation, clarification, and cold conditioning. The tank gives you a closed, pressure-capable environment where CO2 levels can be adjusted without scrubbing aroma. For a 10–15 BBL brewhouse, a 1000L working volume often matches a single brew or a split batch, depending on fermentation capacity. Taproom breweries and small contract producers use this size when they need flexibility without tying up a full production tank.
We build these tanks with 304 stainless steel as standard. If the beer is highly acidic, barrel-aged, or exposed to aggressive cleaning chemicals, 316L on product contact surfaces is available. Inner shells typically run 3 mm, with 1.5–2 mm outer cladding. Dimple jackets cover the side and cone for glycol cooling. Insulation is polyurethane, usually 80–100 mm, so the tank holds cold crash temperatures without excessive glycol load.
Fabrication details that affect beer quality
Sanitary welds are ground and passivated on product contact areas. We use 1.5 in. tri-clamp fittings for racking arm, sample valve, CIP, and carbonation stone. The CIP spray ball must be sized to the tank diameter; a small ball in a 1000L tank leaves dead zones on the cone. The manway gasket, racking arm seals, and pressure relief valve are routine wear points, so keep spare seals on hand.
Working pressure depends on your carbonation method. Most 1000L BBTs are rated around 1.5–2 bar, with a safety valve set below design pressure. If you plan to carbonate at higher pressure or push beer long distances, specify the pressure rating before fabrication. The PRV, gauge, and relief piping should be accessible from the tank platform.

FAQ
Can I use one 1000L BBT for multiple beer styles? Yes, if CIP is validated between batches. Strongly hopped beers and acidic fruit beers may need dedicated seals or a 316L contact surface.
Do I need a racking arm? Most breweries order one. It lets you draw clear beer above yeast and trub without tilting the tank.
How do I connect glycol, CIP, and beer lines? We provide jacket inlet/outlet, CIP arm, and racking port locations based on your cellar drawing. Send pipe runs and available wall space before finalizing.
Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
