Description
A 1000L bright beer tank is normally the last vessel between fermentation and the filler. It holds beer under counterpressure while it carbonates, drops clear, and waits for the packaging line. The same body handles sake, kombucha, and cider, but the jacket layout and pressure rating change with what you put inside.
What the vessel does in service
We build this as a vertical cylinder with a dished bottom, three or four legs, and a dimple or pillow-plate cooling jacket on the side wall. A second jacket on the bottom cone becomes worthwhile once you carbonate in the tank instead of in-line. Running 2.0 to 2.5 volumes of CO2 at 1 to 2 degrees C means a working pressure of at least 1.5 bar, and the relief valve must be set to that figure, not to the vessel test pressure. That single mistake shows up more often than any other in incoming inspection reports.
Material and fabrication
Product contact is SS304, 2B mill finish as standard, mechanically polished to 0.4 to 0.6 micrometers on request. Shell plate runs 2.5 to 3 mm at this volume; thinner material looks acceptable on a drawing and dents the first time it is moved with liquid inside. We TIG weld with argon backing gas, then pickle and passivate the seams. Typical fittings: tri-clamp or DIN 11851 racking port, sample valve, pressure gauge, CIP spray ball, thermowell, and a dry-hop or inspection port. EPDM gaskets for beer, silicone for kombucha and cider where the acidity is higher.

Common questions
Can one tank serve beer and kombucha? Yes, with separate gasket sets and a full CIP cycle between products. Flavor carryover lives in the seals and the sample valve, not the steel.
Do I need the bottom jacket? If you crash cool quickly and carbonate in the vessel, order it. Side-only jackets leave the cone warm and slow the carbonation.
How much glycol capacity? Budget roughly 1.5 to 2 kW of chiller duty per 1000L tank during active crashing, plus line losses.
