Description

Where a 500L brewhouse actually fits

Most inquiries for a 500L system come from a brewpub or a small production brewery that has outgrown a 200L pilot kit. Typical duty: two to four brews a week at 500L per batch, feeding four to six fermenters. That batch size matches a 10–12 bbl cellar and keeps tank turns predictable instead of chasing demand.

Materials and fabrication

Fermenters ship in SUS304 as standard. We go to SUS316L on the wort-wetted side when the customer runs sour programs or has high-chloride water. Shell thickness runs 2–3mm on the body and 3mm on the cone; thinner stock telegraphs through the polish and shows up as oil-canning a year later. Interior welds are ground flush, then pickled and passivated — the cone-to-shell seam is the one worth inspecting on arrival. Interior finish Ra ≤0.8µm, exterior mirror or 2B scroll polish on request. Manway gaskets are EPDM, with silicone available for hard CIP cycles.

Cooling, pressure, cleaning

Dimple jackets cover the cone plus roughly one-third of shell height. On a correctly sized glycol chiller that is enough to crash 500L from 18°C to 2°C overnight. Working pressure is normally 0.2MPa with a 0.3MPa hydro test; the safety valve and gauge are rated to working pressure, never test pressure. Cleaning runs through a rotating spray ball in the top dome at 1.5–2 bar supply. A 1.5\” dry-hop port and a racking arm at the cone outlet are the two options most brewers add after the first season.

FAQ

Do I need conical bottoms on every tank? For primary fermentation, yes — cone angle of 60° handles yeast drop and harvest. Bright tanks can be flat or dished if you filter or fine.

How many fermenters for one brewhouse? Count brews per week against turn-around time. A five-day primary plus two days crash means one tank per 1.5 brews weekly.

Can the system run 316L throughout? Yes, at a cost premium. It pays back where chloride exposure or sour production is routine.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
