Description

What this mobile tank is for

We build this tank for breweries and wineries that move fermentation between rooms, fill lines, or temporary production areas. A forklift-ready skid lets one tank serve multiple duties instead of sitting in a fixed cellar position. The vessel is not a repurposed dairy tank. Cone angle, cooling zones, fittings, and pressure rating are selected around your fermentation profile.

Materials and fabrication

Product contact surfaces are 304 or 316L stainless. 316L makes sense for sour beer, fruit wine, salted water cooling, or aggressive CIP chemistry. We TIG weld with argon purge, then pickle and passivate welds. Interior finishes range from 2B mill to 320-grit polish; mirror polishing is optional but not always the best use of budget. Dimple or channel cooling jackets cover the cone and lower cylinder. Insulation is polyurethane, clad in stainless. Manways, sample valves, racking arms, dry hop ports, and carbonation stones are positioned after we review your process.

Temperature control and pressure

Glycol jackets hold lager, ale, cider, or wine must within 1–2°F when the chiller and flow rate match the batch. A thermowell with RTD or dial gauge gives useful control. Tanks can be built as atmospheric, brite, or pressure-rated. If carbonation or transfer pressure is needed, we set the relief valve, PRV, and working pressure together. Do not size a safety valve by habit; it follows tank design pressure and maximum gas input.

CIP, connections, and movement

CIP uses a rotating spray ball, dedicated inlet, and drain path that avoids trapped liquid. Tri-clamp fittings keep lines simple. Common ports include racking arm, sample valve, gas in, blow-off, and glycol in/out. Forklift pockets or a reinforced base frame are placed to keep the center of gravity low when the tank is full or partially full.

FAQ

Can one tank handle ale and lager? Yes, if jacket area and chiller capacity suit the fastest fermentation.

Why choose a cone? A cone helps yeast harvest, trub removal, and carbonation. Flat or dished bottoms fit wine and cider better.

What do you need for a quote? Batch size, beer or wine type, target temperature, available height, power, glycol supply, and connection preferences.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
