Description
A 500L two-vessel brewhouse fits taprooms and small production breweries running one or two brews a day. The layout we build most often pairs a mash/lauter tun with a combined kettle/whirlpool. Two vessels keep the footprint and the capital cost down while still giving you a real whirlpool rest before knockout.
Vessel bodies are 3 mm SUS304 as standard. We offer 316L for the kettle when a customer brews high-adjunct or heavily hopped wort and wants more pitting resistance. Interior welds are ground, pickled and passivated; the exterior is brushed, or mirror-polished if the brewhouse stands behind glass in the taproom. Product-contact gaskets are EPDM or silicone and clamped rather than glued, so a worn seal is a five-minute change instead of a service call.
Heating is normally low-pressure steam through a dimple jacket. Direct electric elements stay popular at sites with no boiler, and on a 500L system the element bank is straightforward to swap. We size jacket coverage for a 1.2–1.5 °C per minute rise; when a brewer asks for faster ramping, we change the jacket area rather than pushing the steam pressure up. The whirlpool tangential inlet is positioned from the actual vessel diameter, not copied from a standard drawing.
| Batch size | 500 L per brew |
| Vessels | Mash/lauter tun, kettle/whirlpool |
| Material | SUS304 standard, 316L kettle optional |
| Heating | Steam jacket or electric elements |
| Interior finish | Ra ≤ 0.8 µm, pickled and passivated welds |
| Jacket working pressure | 0.15–0.3 MPa |
| Control | PLC with recipe steps, manual override |
| Footprint (approx.) | 3.6 × 2.2 m with platform |
Can it handle two brews a day? Yes, with a plate chiller sized for your knockout time and enough fermenter capacity downstream. Most buyers underestimate the cold side.
Do we need a boiler? Only if you choose steam. Electric heating avoids the boiler but needs a supply check with your electrician first.
How is it cleaned? CIP through the lauter grant and kettle spray ball, with the wort line and chiller included in the loop.
Can a third vessel be added later? Usually yes if the frame and piping runs are planned at the start. Retrofitting is more expensive.
Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review
We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
