Description
A 500L conical fermenter is where a brewery stops brewing for fun and starts brewing on a schedule. We build these unitanks for customers running eight to ten brews a month — operations where a missed crash-cool window means a tank sitting full for an extra day.
Vessel and cone are 3 mm SUS304, TIG welded, then pickled and passivated. Interior welds are ground flush and polished to 0.4–0.6 µm Ra; exteriors stay at brushed 180-grit unless the tank is going into a taproom, where a mirror finish occasionally gets requested. Every unit is hydro-tested at 1.5× design pressure before crating.
Cooling jackets cover the cone and the lower cylinder wall — the zone where yeast mass and trub actually settle. Glycol at 28–30°F through an 80 mm PU-insulated shell holds 500L through active fermentation, and the cone jacket alone can crash 8–10°F per hour if the chiller has the capacity. Plan on roughly 3–5 kW of chilling per tank at peak, not on the daily average.
Working pressure is 0.2 MPa, tested to 0.3 MPa. We ship an adjustable PRV set at the working pressure plus a separate vacuum relief valve. A tank CIP\’d hot and sealed cold will implode without it — we have replaced two cones over the years for exactly that reason.
CIP runs through a rotating spray ball mounted in the top manway. Standard fittings: 1.5\” tri-clamp CIP and blow-off, racking arm, sample valve, dry-hop port, carb stone port, and two glycol ports, with a 2\” tri-clamp bottom outlet.

Common questions
Can I carbonate in it? Spunding at 0.2 MPa is fine. Pushing to 2.6 vol CO₂ is better handled in a brite tank.
What chiller size? Size for the worst hour, not the week. Four tanks crashing together pull far more than the average suggests.
Is 316L worth it? Usually not for standard ale and lager. It matters for sour programs, cider, and seltzer, where acidity and chloride exposure are higher.
Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review
We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
