Description

500L Fermenter for Craft Breweries

This 500L fermenter is a temperature-controlled conical vessel built for breweries that need repeatable fermentation on a small-to-mid production scale. It suits ale and lager fermentation, maturation, and conditioning, and can also be used for cider or kombucha where jacket cooling and CIP are required. We build it as a single-wall jacketed tank with a 60-degree cone, dished top, and a working volume of 500 liters.

Materials and Fabrication

Tanks are made from SUS304 as standard. For highly acidic or chloride-exposed environments, 316L is available. Interior surfaces are pickled and passivated, then polished to below 0.6 microns on product contact areas. Welds are full-penetration TIG, ground and polished. The cooling jacket is dimple or channel type, welded to the cone and lower cylinder wall. We pressure-test every tank before shipment and provide material certificates on request.

Temperature Control

A glycol jacket on the cone and body maintains fermentation temperature within +/-0.5C when paired with a properly sized chiller and control valve. The jacket inlet and outlet are positioned for gravity return. For 500L batches, a 1.5 to 2 HP chiller is typical, but this depends on ambient temperature and fermentation activity.

FAQ

Can I use this tank for pressurized fermentation? Yes, with the standard pressure relief valve set at 0.2 MPa. Confirm your required carbonation level before ordering.

How do I clean it? A CIP spray ball is fitted in the top. Use a pump and caustic cycle, then rinse and sanitize. The racking arm and sample valve should be disassembled for inspection.

What connections do I need? Glycol in/out, CIP supply and return, beer out, and a blow-off or pressure relief. We can match your existing tri-clamp sizes.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
