Description

Square Single Wall Wine Fermentation Tanks with Cooling Jacket Belt or Coil

Square single-wall fermenters are for cellars where floor space is tight and each lot needs its own temperature control. The square footprint lets tanks sit against a wall or in close rows. We build them as single-wall vessels with an external cooling belt or coil, so wine contacts only the stainless interior while glycol or chilled water removes fermentation heat.

Single-wall construction is lighter and lower cost than an insulated jacketed tank, but room conditions matter. In a warm cellar, condensation on the outer shell is normal. For high humidity, we can add a drip tray or insulation wrap. The square shape also gives more working room around the manway and racking arm during cap management.

Type 304 handles most wine, must, and juice. Type 316L is better for chloride exposure, coastal water, or aggressive cleaning. We TIG weld the shell, jacket, and fittings, then pickle and passivate weld zones. Interiors are normally 2B finish, with 320-grit polishing optional. Manways, sample valves, racking arms, and CIP spray balls use sanitary tri-clamp or DIN connections. Gaskets are EPDM, silicone, or PTFE.

Cooling can be a dimpled belt or a coil. A belt gives broad coverage and faster pull-down. A coil is often easier to fit on a square shell and can sit around the lower third. Glycol flow, jacket pressure, and tank volume must be matched. If the tank is sealed, we fit a vent, airlock, or pressure relief valve sized for the working pressure.

FAQ

Can a single-wall tank hold fermentation temperature? Yes, if cooling area and glycol supply are sized correctly. Ambient room temperature still affects performance.

Belt or coil? A belt usually gives more cooling surface and faster response. A coil can be a better fit for tight square shells or retrofit projects.

How do I connect CIP and coolant? We provide matching tri-clamp ports, coolant inlet and outlet, and a CIP spray ball. Your cellar piping and pump capacity determine final port sizes.

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
