Where a 1000L Tank Fits

A 1000 L conical sits in a useful middle ground: too big for a pilot kit, small enough that a brewpub runs two or three turns through it each week. Usable volume lands near 8.5 barrels with the 20% headspace we leave for krausen, which suits brewpubs packaging on-site and microbreweries running a core lineup plus seasonals.

Build Details

Body plate is 3 mm SUS304, stepped up to 4 mm on the cone because that is where the weight and the yeast load sit. Standard cone angle is 60 degrees; we cut 70 degrees when a customer dry-hops heavily and wants the hops to drop clean. Interior welds are ground flush, then pickled and passivated. Internal finish is Ra 0.8 um or better, and we can electropolish to Ra 0.5 um if you run kettle sours or mixed fermentation. Exterior comes 2B or brushed.

Temperature Control and Pressure

A dimple jacket on the cone plus two or three zoned cylinder jackets hold crash cooling in the 24 to 36 hour range, depending on your glycol supply. Customers typically run 28 to 30 F glycol at 25 to 30 gpm. Working pressure is 15 psi as standard, hydro-tested at 1.5 times, with a 30 psi option for breweries that carbonate in the tank. The relief valve is sized to the vessel, not picked off a shelf.

Ports, CIP and Piping

Top fittings: 3 in dry hop port doubling as CIP inlet, 1.5 in blow-off with sight glass, and a sample valve. Side: racking arm with 1.5 in butterfly. Bottom: 1.5 or 2 in outlet, your call. A spray ball rated for 25 to 30 gpm at 25 psi covers the full interior without shadowing behind the racking arm.

Common Questions

Do I need a separate bright tank? Not necessarily. A 30 psi unit with a carbonation stone lets you finish in the fermenter, though most brewpubs add one bright tank to keep packaging moving.

316L instead of 304? Only if you are running high-chloride water or aggressive sour programs. For standard ale and lager production, 304 holds up fine.

How much floor space? Plan on roughly 1.2 m diameter and 3.2 m overall height, plus clearance for the top manway and dry hop port.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
