Description

A 1000L conical fermenter sits in the middle of what we build. It carries the core production of a brewpub and still fits through a standard 2.2 m door once the legs come off. Most of these tanks leave our floor for 10 to 30 bbl brewpubs fermenting ales and lagers on a fixed weekly schedule.

We build the body as a 1000 L vessel with a 60 degree cone, which leaves about 800 L of usable wort and enough headspace for krausen on a vigorous top fermenter. The shell is 3 mm SUS304 as standard. When the wort runs high in chloride, or the tank will hold sour beer, fruit or heavily dry hopped batches, the wetted parts move to 316L. Interior welds are ground flush and passivated. A 0.4 micron mirror polish is available when cleaning verification matters to your QA team.

Cooling comes from a dimple jacket on the lower cylinder and cone, fed with glycol at -4 to -6 C. Splitting the jacket into two or three zones lets you crash cool faster and hold a steady 1 C during lagering without overshooting. Jackets are tested at 0.6 MPa and rated for 0.3 MPa working pressure. The tank itself works at 0.2 MPa with a pressure relief valve set to match. A 400 mm top manway, CIP spray ball, racking arm, sample valve and dry hopping port are standard, and a carb stone or a second port for a hop cannon can be added.

Common questions

1000 L or 1500 L? If your weekly brew length is under 900 L of wort, 1000 L keeps the cone full and the cooling cycle short. Sizing up leaves a thin wort layer on the cone and slower temperature response.

Can it hold pressure for carbonation? It will take 0.2 MPa, which covers normal top pressure and transfer. Brite tank carbonation at higher pressure needs a dedicated rated vessel.

How is CIP handled? Caustic at 60 to 80 C through the spray ball, then rinse and acid, with the racking arm rotated during the cycle so the elbow sees flow.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
