Description

Where a 2HL Isobaric Conical Fits

A 200L jacketed conical is a pilot vessel, and that shapes how it gets built. Most of these tanks leave our floor headed for recipe development, seasonal one-offs, or a taproom setup that needs carbonated beer without tying up a separate bright tank. Because the shell is rated for pressure, you can carbonate in the cone and push beer with head pressure instead of a transfer pump.

Shell, Welds, and Surface Finish

SUS304 is our default for shell and dish. We move product-contact surfaces to 316L when a brewery runs sour programs, fruit additions, or anything with a high acid load — lactate and fruit purée will find the weak point in a finish schedule. Interior welds are ground flush and passivated before the tank ships. A 2B mill finish covers most customers; an interior mirror polish (Ra ≤ 0.8 µm) is worth the upcharge if you CIP on a short cycle and want the spray ball to do the whole job.

Cooling comes from a dimple or channel jacket on the cone and lower cylinder, with an insulated 304 outer shell. We use 80–100 mm polyurethane and stainless cladding so the tank does not sweat in a humid brewhouse.

Specifications

Item Specification

Material SUS304 standard; SUS316L optional
Design pressure 3 bar; working 2.0–2.5 bar
Jacket Dimple/channel, glycol, 1.5 in TC in/out
Ports Top manway, CIP arm, hop port, sample valve, racking arm
Finish 2B mill; mirror polish optional

Pressure, Valves, and the Safety Question

Set the PRV to the vessel rating, not to whatever the glycol compressor can make. We see this mismatch more often than any other mistake on isobaric tanks. Dry hopping under pressure works well at this size, but use a dedicated hop port on the top dish rather than dropping pellets through the CIP arm.

CIP and Utility Connections

A rotating spray ball sits on the top dish; CIP return runs from the cone bottom. Standard trim includes a bottom butterfly outlet with a DIN fitting, a sample valve, and a racking arm. If you carbonate in the tank, add a carb stone port in the cone — retrofitting one later means cutting a passivated surface.

Common Questions

Can one tank handle fermentation and carbonation? Yes, up to the working pressure on the nameplate. Above 2.5 bar, talk to us about wall thickness.

Do I need 316L? Only if your beer is consistently acidic or you brew sours in the same vessel.

How is it shipped? Skid-mounted with valves and PRV installed, or bare shell if you already have fittings.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
