Description
Built for 250 L batches, not for a spec sheet
A 250 liter refrigerated fermenter usually lands in a brewpub, a pilot brewery, or a taproom that outgrew plastic. We size the working volume at 250 L with about 25% headspace, so a full 2-barrel knockout has room for krausen and dry hopping without pushing foam into the blow-off arm.
Material and fabrication
SUS304 is the standard choice. 316L comes up when the brewery runs kettle sours or sits on water with elevated chloride. Shell thickness runs 3 mm on the cylinder and 3 mm on the cone, with dished heads top and bottom. Internal welds are ground flush and passivated, and product contact surfaces are polished to Ra ≤ 0.8 µm. The exterior gets a 400-grit brushed finish, or a mirror polish if the tank is visible from the bar.
Cooling jacket and glycol circuit
The dimple jacket covers the cone and lower cylinder — the two areas where yeast flocculates and where most of the heat sits. Glycol enters at 1.5–2 bar; the jacket itself is rated to 0.3 MPa. One zone handles crash cooling from 18 °C to 2 °C overnight in most taprooms. For lagers or step-temperature profiles, ask for two zones with separate solenoid valves and a dual-probe controller.
Pressure, cone, and ports
A 60° cone is standard and drains cleanly. Working pressure is 0.2 MPa with a 0.3 MPa hydro test. The pressure relief valve is sized to the maximum CO₂ the tank can see during a warm crash or a stuck transfer — never plug it. Top ports carry a CIP spray ball, dry hop port, and pressure gauge. The side wall has a racking arm, sample valve, and thermowell. The cone ends in a 1.5 in tri-clamp dump valve.

Questions we get before quoting
Can it carbonate? Yes. As a unitank at 0.2 MPa it holds natural or forced carbonation, but the PRV must stay set and the relief line must stay open.
304 or 316L? If your CIP chemicals run caustic and acid at the usual concentrations, 304 lasts. Sour programs and chlorinated water push us toward 316L.
What chiller do I need? Roughly 1.5 kW of cooling per tank for ale fermentation, more if you crash several tanks at once.
Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review
We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
