7HL Turnkey Brewhouse: What It Handles in Production

A 7HL brewhouse suits breweries moving from pilot batches into repeatable commercial production. The turnkey package covers mash/lauter, kettle/whirlpool, hot liquor and cold liquor tanks, plate chiller, piping, pump, control panel, and optional fermenters. We build the brewhouse around batch size, beer style, available floor space, steam or electric heating, and local utility codes. A 7 bbl system often runs two or three brews per day; the limiting factor is usually lautering speed and kettle boil-off, not tank volume.

Fabrication and Materials

Vessels use SUS304 for wetted surfaces, with 316L available for high-chloride water, sour beers, or aggressive CIP chemistry. Cladding or full 316L construction is quoted by tank. Shell and dish thickness are calculated for design pressure, not guessed. We TIG weld with argon purge, then pickle and passivate seams. Interior polish ranges from 0.4–0.8 µm Ra depending on product contact and cleaning needs; exterior can be brushed, mirror-polished, or insulated with stainless jacket. Gaskets, manway seals, and sample valves are selected for steam, caustic, and peracetic acid exposure. Jackets are dimple or channel type, with independent zones on cone and body for crash cooling and diacetyl rest.

System Connections and Cleaning

CIP is routed through spray balls or rotary spray heads, with dedicated return pumps. Hard piping is preferred for brewhouse skids; tri-clamp connections simplify tank changes. Glycol or chilled water headers should be sized to the total jacket volume, not just the brewhouse. Pressure relief valves, gauges, and PRV settings must match vessel design pressure and local code.

FAQ

Can one 7HL brewhouse support multiple fermenters? Yes. Match fermenter count to brew frequency, fermentation time, and packaging schedule. A 7HL batch into 14HL tanks may require double brews.

Do I need conical fermenters? Conicals help with yeast cropping, dry hopping, and carbonation. For cask ale or open fermentation, different geometry may work better.

What should I prepare for a quote? Batch size, beer styles, brews per week, steam/electric availability, ceiling height, floor drains, glycol capacity, and tank count. Send those details and we can recommend tank volume, cooling area, and configuration.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
