A Small Copper Column Still for People Who Test Before They Commit
We build these mini units for distillers who want to prove a recipe before dumping 500 L of wash into the big kettle. Lab techs, startup brands, and small farm distilleries run them the same way: 20–50 L batches, adjust cut points, repeat. Copper sits where it matters — boiler body, column, and the mesh in the vapor path. We\’ve shipped stainless condenser shells to cost-conscious buyers, but most builds still get a copper coil inside.
What we set up before it leaves the shop
Heating decides everything else. Electric elements at 2–6 kW, 220V single phase, work in a garage or pilot room with no boiler on site. Steam jackets are the better call if you already run a boiler — gentler on grain-in washes, no scorching, tighter control. Tell us which you have and we\’ll quote accordingly.
Column height and packing depth set your proof. A 500 mm packed column with copper mesh puts most fruit and grain runs in the 85–92% range on a slow takeoff. Planning vapor infusion? Add the gin basket above the column. Thick, grain-in washes benefit from an agitator; clear sugar washes don\’t need one. A parrot is worth the small upcharge if you\’re chasing cuts by proof.

CE marking covers the electrical assembly and pressure relief. It doesn\’t cover your cooling water plumbing or where you vent the column — that\’s on the room.
For a quote, send batch size, heating source, available power (voltage and phase), cooling water temp and flow, column height, and whether you want the gin basket, agitator, or parrot. A rough floor plan helps if the ceiling is low; headroom above the column trips up more installs than floor space does.
