What This Tank Is Actually For

Most brewers contact us after a season of moving beer with pumps and gravity. Oxygen pickup shows up as flat hop aroma three weeks into the package, and the real fix is a vessel that holds pressure from fermentation all the way to the filler. That is the job of this 1000L unit: ferment, carbonate in-tank, cold crash, and push beer with CO2 instead of a pump.

Materials and Fabrication

Shell and dished ends are SUS304 at 3mm. We switch to 316L when the product is sour beer, kombucha, or anything with meaningful chloride exposure. Welds are TIG with argon backing on the product side, then pickled, passivated, and ground. Interior polish is Ra ≤0.4 µm; exterior is 2B or brushed, insulated with 80mm polyurethane under a stainless wrap.

Cones run 60° as standard, with 70° and 75° for breweries working with high-flocculation yeast or heavy dry hopping. A dimple-plate glycol jacket covers the cone and cylinder, split into two or three zones when a cellar needs tighter control between tanks.

Pressure, CIP, and Connections

Working pressure is 0.2 MPa (2 bar), hydro tested at 0.3 MPa. Each tank ships with a spring-loaded safety valve, pressure gauge, and spunding port so carbonation happens in the fermenter rather than the brite. Cleaning is handled by a rotary spray ball rated for 1.5–2 bar, fed through DIN 11851 or tri-clamp fittings. We normally leave two racking ports plus a separate sample valve, so nobody has to break a connection mid-transfer.

Interior finish Ra ≤0.4 µm
Cone 60° / 70° / 75°
Working pressure 0.2 MPa
Cooling Dimple-plate glycol jacket, 2–3 zones
Insulation 80mm PU, stainless cladding
Connections DIN 11851 / tri-clamp

Common Questions

Why does a fermenter need cooling? Active fermentation generates heat. Without glycol control, an ale can climb 5–8°C above setpoint and throw fusel alcohols and diacetyl you will chase for weeks.

Can I carbonate in this tank? Yes. At 2 bar working pressure you can reach typical ale carbonation levels and transfer under counter-pressure.

304 or 316L? 304 handles standard beer fine. Choose 316L for kettle sours, fruited beers with high acidity, or aggressive CIP chemistry.

How much headspace? Plan on 20–25%. Krausen from a 1000L batch needs room, especially with wheat and hazy strains.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
