Description

What This Tank Is Built For

A 500 L, 1000 L or 2000 L unitank is usually the first vessel a brewery outgrows. Ours are cylindrical with a cone bottom and rated as pressure vessels, so they ferment, carbonate, and hold beer under top pressure without a separate bright tank. Taprooms and pilot systems stay at 500 L. Breweries running three to ten brews a week land in the 1000 L range. Production halls pushing 20–30 bbl move to 2000 L and bank them in rows.

Materials and Fabrication

Body and cone in SUS304 by default, 3 mm shell and 4 mm cone on the 2000 L size. SUS316L earns its premium when you ferment sour or high-chloride beer, or when the tank sees aggressive acid CIP. Interior welds are full penetration, ground, then pickled and passivated. Product contact surfaces run 0.4–0.6 µm mechanically polished; exteriors are 2B mill or #4 brushed. Cone angle is 60° for standard ales, 70°–75° when dry hops need to drop clean. Manway, dry-hop port, sample valve, racking arm, and PRV positions are fixed on the drawing before the shell is rolled.

Cooling and Pressure

Dimple or channel jacket on the cone, plus one or two zones on the shell, sized for a 1.5 °C/hr crash. Glycol enters at -4 to -6 °C. Working pressure runs 1.5–2 bar with a 3 bar hydro test. Every tank ships with a relief valve set below the design rating; that valve protects the shell, not the beer. Clean in place through the spray ball at 1.5–2 bar and drain through the bottom outlet. Keep the CIP return line separate from the racking arm so you are not pushing caustic through a valve you use on packaged beer.

Questions We Get Before Every Order

Do I need a conical bottom? Yes for anything you crop yeast from or dry hop. Flat-bottom tanks only make sense for cask ale and open fermentation.

How many zones? One jacket is fine up to 1000 L in a cool cellar. Two zones help when ambient temperature swings or when you crash 2000 L quickly.

Can I carbonate in the tank? With a rated vessel, a PRV, and a carbonation stone, yes. Confirm the spunding setup with us first.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
