Description

Start from the brew count, not the vessel size

At 25 HL (about 20 BBL) per turn, the brewhouse sets the rhythm for everything downstream. Two turns a day puts roughly 40 BBL into your fermenters, and that figure should drive your cellar plan. Buy the kettle volume, and you may end up with tanks you cannot fill.

Three vessels or four

A three-vessel set combines mash and lauter, then a separate kettle and whirlpool. It works well when your brew schedule is one turn per day with cleaning time built in. A four-vessel set splits mash from lauter, so the mill and the mash tun can start the second turn while the first is still lautering. That is the difference between brewing twice a day comfortably and brewing twice a day by rushing the CIP.

Steam, and where the pressure actually sits

Steam jackets give an even, controllable boil-off without the scorching risk of a direct-fired kettle. Our kettle jacket is rated at 0.3 MPa with a safety valve on the steam header and a proper condensate trap at the low point so the jacket does not waterlog. The kettle interior itself is vented to atmosphere; only the jacket and steam piping carry pressure. Keep that distinction in mind when your utility contractor sizes the steam generator.

Fabrication details worth asking about

Wort-contact surfaces are 316L, 3 mm, with 304 on cladding, frames and non-contact parts. Welds are ground, pickled and passivated, and the kettle interior is finished to Ra 0.8 µm so protein and hop residue release cleanly during CIP. Dimple jackets are laser-welded rather than spot-welded to avoid stress points, and shells are insulated with 80–100 mm rock wool under stainless cladding. Tri-clamp fittings throughout, with CIP and wort piping laid out so the spray ball on the whirlpool is not fighting the tangential inlet.

Questions we get before quoting

Can the same skid run a second beer style? Yes, but decoction or heavy adjunct schedules change the vessel count and the false bottom design. Tell us the grist, not just the volume.

Is 316L necessary everywhere? No. We keep it on wort contact and use 304 where it makes no difference to the beer or the service life.

What utilities do you need on site? Steam, chilled water for the heat exchanger, compressed air for valves, and floor drainage sized for vessel CIP, not just hose-down.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the vessel count, jacket area and piping configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
