Description
We build this 300L unit around a red copper column and a 304 stainless boiler, with a gearbox-driven agitator and a sanitary transfer pump in the package. Copper belongs in the vapor path: column sections, the onion, the lyne arm. That is where sulfur and heavy congeners get pulled out. Cladding the whole still in copper looks good in photos, but it costs more, weighs more, and you end up polishing it twice as often. Stainless for the kettle shell and piping holds up better against acidic washes.
Who Actually Buys a 300L
Three hundred liters suits a distillery running two to four stripping runs a week. If you are still selling at farmers markets, stay at 200L. Once you are contract distilling or pushing past 500L batches, go to 500L or 1000L — you save on labor, not on copper.

Heating, Footprint, and the Details That Bite
Heating drives most of the installation cost. Electric elements are simpler, no boiler, no steam line, but you need 36–54 kW of connected load and real ventilation. Steam jackets give gentler, more even heat, and you can run the column harder without scorching the wash. Check your ceiling, too. A 300L column still with a gin basket can reach 4 meters, and that is before the parrot or a CIP line.
