400L Copper Pot Still — What We Actually Build
A 400-liter charge hits a sweet spot for a distillery running three to five batches a week. Most of these orders come from two kinds of buyers: craft producers stepping up from a 100L or 200L rig, and brands that have been contract-distilling and want their own spirit in their own building. Both ask the same questions — repeatable cuts, copper that holds up, and a footprint that doesn\’t swallow the whole room.

Heating is the first real decision. Electric elements install fast, skip the boiler permit, and handle most 400L batches fine. Steam jackets cost more up front, but heat-up is gentler and faster, and your cost per run drops once a boiler is already on site. We still ship direct-fire units for whisky in some regions — harder to control, but some distillers want that.
Copper Contact and Add-Ons
Copper earns its place in the vapor path: pot, swan neck, lyne arm. Those surfaces pull sulfides and shape the spirit. Column and condenser stay stainless unless you specify otherwise — full copper looks impressive and adds weight, cleaning time, and cost.
Gin basket goes above the pot in the vapor path. An agitator matters if you run grain-in mash and don\’t want scorching on electric heat. Worm condensers still get ordered for brandy; shell-and-tube is easier to clean and takes less floor space.
