Description
We build these 400L copper stills for distillers who already know what a pot still does and mostly want to know how it will run on their floor. Most orders come from craft distilleries stepping up from a 100L or 200L unit, or from a gin or whiskey producer adding a second kettle.
Where 400L sits
200L and 300L fit a taproom with retail attached — one run a week, bottling by hand. 500L and 1000L start making sense once you have distribution. 400L lets a two-person team run three or four stripping runs in a day without a second operator. We usually ask about your fermenter volume before quoting, because the still should match the fermenter, not the other way around.

Copper contact and heating
Copper earns its keep where vapor and liquid actually touch: kettle, column, lyne arm. A stainless kettle with copper internals costs less and behaves close enough for vodka. Whiskey drinkers tend to want the full copper kettle for sulfur stripping, and we don\’t argue with them.
Electric heating is easier to install — no boiler, no steam piping — but check your amperage and panel capacity first. Steam heats faster with gentler gradients, and most customers above 500L go that route.
One thing worth checking early: ceiling height, door width, floor loading. A 400L copper kettle with a packed column often ships in sections and needs rigging on site.
What to send for a real quote
Tell us the spirit you\’re making, target liters per week, what heating you have available, steam pressure if there\’s a boiler, and whether you need a gin basket, agitator, or CIP. A floor plan or room dimensions helps. That\’s usually enough to come back with a drawing and a price instead of a generic spec sheet.
