What we build for a 500L run
We fabricate the 500L copper still with a reflux column and condenser for distilleries that need a true production batch, not a pilot setup. The boiler, column, and condenser are matched before welding. We see a lot of buyers jump from 200L to 500L once wholesale orders start. That jump makes sense if your fermenter size, steam supply, and floor space can support it.
Copper contact matters most in the vapor path. We use copper for the column and condenser sections because it helps manage sulfur compounds and gives you a softer spirit profile. The boiler can be stainless or copper depending on your wash and cleaning routine. For whiskey, rum, or brandy, many customers keep copper in the lyne arm and condenser. For neutral spirits, the reflux column does more of the work.

Electric heating is common where steam isn\’t available. It\’s simpler to install, but recovery and power cost vary by utility rate. Steam gives better control for larger daily runs, but you need a boiler and proper piping. If you plan to run 8-hour shifts, steam usually wins. For 2-3 batches a week, electric can be fine.
Before we quote, send us wash type, target ABV, batch frequency, available ceiling height, power or steam details, and whether you need a gin basket or agitator. Those details change the column height, condenser size, and shipping plan. We also need your unloading conditions. A 500L still isn\’t a crate you move with a pallet jack.
