Description

Horizontal Bright Beer Tanks, 1000L to 5000L

A horizontal bright beer tank does three jobs at once: it finishes carbonation, holds beer cold under pressure, and feeds the filler or the taproom without losing the carbonation you just built. Brewers move to horizontal BBTs when vertical unitanks start eating floor space, or when serving tanks have to sit under a low ceiling.

How we build them

Product contact is SUS304 as standard. We switch to SUS316L for breweries on high-chloride water or running sour and fruit beers. Inner shell runs 3mm and is dimpled for the glycol jacket; outer shell is 2mm with 80-100mm of polyurethane between the layers. Interior welds are TIG, back-purged, then pickled and passivated. Product contact is polished to Ra 0.8µm or better. A mirror finish is available, though for most ales a satin finish cleans just as well and costs less.

Standard fittings: CIP spray ball, pressure/vacuum relief valve, carbonation stone on its own port, sample valve, racking arm, dry hop port, sight glass, dial thermometer, and adjustable feet. Working pressure is typically 0.2 MPa with a 0.3 MPa hydro test. The relief valve setting has to match the tank\’s design pressure, not whatever the glycol or CO2 supply happens to run.

Where each size fits

Brewpubs use 1000L and 2000L tanks as serving vessels piped straight to the bar. Regional breweries use 3000L to 5000L as bright beer buffers ahead of a canning or bottling line, often in pairs so one fills while the other empties. What really changes between a taproom tank and a packaging tank is jacket coverage, port count, and whether the outlet is sized for a filler.

Common questions

2000L or 3000L? Size to your largest single batch, then add the days of serving you want in reserve. Oversizing a bright tank means you chill a lot of empty headspace.

Why horizontal rather than vertical? Less headroom needed, more surface area per liter for faster chilling, and all fittings reachable from the floor.

Can it carbonate? Yes, with a stone and a pressure rating that matches your target volumes of CO2.

What do you need from us? Glycol supply and return sizes, CIP routing, beer outlet size, ceiling height and door width.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
