Description

What this turnkey line actually covers

Most inquiries that reach us start with a batch size and a building. A 500L or 1000L turnkey brewery line is usually a brew house, hot liquor tank, whirlpool, and a set of conical fermenters sized to match the brew length. The fermentation tank is the part that decides whether your beer stays consistent from batch one to batch fifty, so it deserves more attention than the brewhouse in most small projects.

We build these tanks as uni-tank fermenters with a 60° or 70° cone, dished top and bottom, and dimple cooling jackets on the cone and lower cylinder. For a 1000L tank, two or three jacket zones let you crash cool without freezing the cone, which matters when you dry hop and then chill in the same vessel.

Material and fabrication details

Standard shell is SUS304, 3mm on the cylinder and 3mm on the heads for tanks up to 1000L. Breweries fermenting cider or anything with higher acidity often ask for 316L on the product-contact side; we weld the jacket in 304 and keep the wetted surfaces uniform. Interior welds are ground, pickled and passivated, then mirror polished to Ra ≤0.8µm. Exterior is a No.4 brushed finish unless you want the tank insulated and clad in stainless.

Insulation is 80–100mm polyurethane, foam-injected after the jacket test. Every jacket is pressure tested at 0.6MPa before foaming; a leak found after cladding is an expensive repair, so we do not skip that step.

Pressure, CIP and connections

Working pressure is 0.2MPa on the tank and 0.3MPa on the jacket, with a 0.2MPa safety valve and a separate vacuum relief valve. The vacuum breaker is not optional on a tank that gets CIP at 80°C and then cools — a blocked CIP return line can collapse a cone without it.

Standard fittings: 1.5in tri-clamp racking port, 1.5in bottom drain with butterfly valve, CIP spray ball on the top manway, sample valve, dry-hop port, pressure gauge and a 1.5in blow-off arm. Glycol ports are 1in BSP or tri-clamp, your choice. We can put the CIP and glycol manifolds on the tank frame so the operator is not running hoses across the cellar floor.

FAQ

Do I need a conical or a flat-bottom tank? Conical if you intend to harvest yeast, drop trub, or dry hop without transferring. Flat-bottom is only sensible for cask or open fermentation styles.

Can one 1000L tank replace two 500L tanks? Not if you brew different beers on the same day. Split batches are the reason most brewpubs run pairs.

How is temperature controlled? A glycol chiller feeds the jackets through a solenoid valve and a PID controller reading a PT100 in the cone. Size the chiller for the crash-cool load, not just the fermentation heat.

What do you need to quote? Batch size, beer styles, number of tanks, ceiling height and door width for delivery.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
