Most of our 500L orders come from distilleries that already ran a 100L or 200L system and hit a ceiling on output. A 200L batch is a two-person job in a single day. 500L is a different rhythm — a 400–450L charge gives you roughly 60–90L of new make, depending on where you cut.
Where the copper actually does something
We build the pot from 4mm copper plate and the column from 3mm, with copper kept continuous from pot to condenser. That matters. Copper binds sulfides and gives the vapor a reactive surface before it condenses. Run that stretch through stainless tubing instead and malt-heavy washes come off flatter, with a duller nose. Bubble caps inside the column increase the copper contact area further — some buyers skip them at order time, then come back for them, which costs weeks in rework.
Heating is the real dividing line at 500L
If you already have a steam boiler, a steam jacket is the cleaner choice: even heat, no scorching risk on grain-in washes, faster ramp up and down. Without a boiler, a 70kW electric setup with thermal oil works, but the power bill becomes part of your cost per bottle. One customer ran electric for six months before adding a small boiler; his words were that the boiler paid for itself in utility difference alone.

What we need from you before quoting
Send us your wash gravity, target spirit style (single malt, gin base, or neutral), steam availability, ceiling height, and any shipping width limits. The 500L column stands around 3.2m with packing — it is not going through a 3m door, and that gets measured before anything else. Gin basket, agitator, and condenser type are all specified at that stage too.
