Description
A conical fermenter is a pressure vessel first and a tank second. Dry hopping, yeast cropping, carbonation — all of it depends on how the cone, jacket, and fittings were made. We build these from 100 L pilot units up to 1800 L production vessels, and the geometry changes with volume. An 1800 L cone is not a scaled-up 200 L cone.
Materials and fabrication
Shells are 304 stainless, 3 mm below 500 L and 4 mm above. Breweries running sours, cider, or high-chloride water normally specify 316L for the cone and bottom dish. Interior welds are ground flush, pickled, and passivated; product contact surfaces finish at Ra 0.4–0.8 µm. Exterior stays 2B mill finish, or mirror polish if the tank sits in the taproom. Dimple jackets cover the cone and roughly one-third of the side wall. That ratio controls crash cooling better than total jacket area does.
Typical configurations
| Volume | Cone | Working pressure | Cooling |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100–300 L | 60° | 1.5 bar | Cone jacket |
| 500–600 L | 60°/70° | 1.5–2 bar | Cone + side |
| 1000–1800 L | 60° | 2–3 bar | Cone + 1/3 side |
Questions we get before quoting
60° or 70° cone? 60° drains cleanly for most ales. 70° helps with high-adjunct or heavily dry-hopped beers where the cone packs tight and you need the yeast out fast.
What pressure do you rate? 1.5 bar working and 3 bar test is common, but the relief valve and gauge have to match that rating, not exceed it. We stamp and document both.
How is CIP handled? A rotating spray ball on the top manway port, 1.5\” tri-clamp throughout. Rack, blow-off, and sample ports sit on the side wall; the bottom outlet carries a racking arm so you are not pulling trub into the next vessel.
Glycol lines? We can supply the tank with jacket inlet/outlet stubs only, or with a matched solenoid and temperature controller if your chiller has spare capacity to size against.
Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review
We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
