Description
Where this tank fits in a red wine line
Red must is not gentle on equipment. Skin contact, pump-overs, and a cap that can push temperature up 8–10 °F within hours mean the cooling surface has to sit where the heat actually is. On this fermenter the dimpled jacket covers the cone and the lower third of the cylinder — the volume carrying the load — so glycol at 45–50 °F pulls a 1,000 L must back down before the cap dries out or the yeast stalls. Between the shells we put 50 mm of PU foam. That stops the tank from sweating in an unheated cellar and keeps the chiller from short-cycling at night.
The vertical stackable version uses reinforced legs and a top frame sized for a second tank or a catwalk. Small wineries short on floor space run 500 L and 1,000 L units two high; commercial cellars set them in rows on a shared CIP header. If you intend to stack, send us the loaded weight — a full 1,000 L tank is about 1.1 t, and the leg pattern changes above that.
Fabrication details that decide service life
Shell and cone are 304 as standard, 316L when the cleaning regime includes chlorinated foam or the site sits near the coast. Interior is 2B mill finish, or 320-grit polish if you want easier tartrate removal. TIG welds, argon purged, ground flush on product contact and pickled and passivated afterward. Cone angle is 60° on red fermenters for pomace discharge; secondary vessels get a shallow cone. Fittings are tri-clamp: racking arm, sample valve, 1.5 in. bottom drain with butterfly valve, thermowell at mid-jacket, CIP spray ball in the lid, and a relief valve set at 0.2 MPa paired with an adjustable dry airlock for CO2.

Questions we get before quoting
Can one tank do primary and secondary? Yes, but the fittings differ. Secondary wants a smaller cone, a tighter airlock, and often a larger jacket area relative to volume, since malolactic runs slow and cool.
Do I need 316L? Only if your sanitation chemicals or your water chemistry demand it. 304 handles standard winery CIP without trouble.
How is CIP handled? A rotating spray ball in the lid, a dedicated CIP port, and a bottom drain sized so the return line does not flood the pump.
Tell us your batch size, wine type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your winery.

Customer Review
We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
