Description

A 6000 L (60 HL) conical unitank sits where a brewery stops scaling up pilot batches and starts running a fixed production schedule. We build these as jacketed, pressure-rated vessels for fermentation, maturation, and cold crash — one tank covering the full cycle instead of transferring beer between vessels.

Volume and geometry

At 60 HL, a typical batch fills roughly 75–80% of the tank, leaving headspace for krausen. If your brewhouse casts 60 HL, a 6000 L working volume is usually right. Knock out at 65 HL and you should step up a size rather than push the tank. A 60° cone handles most ales and lagers; heavily dry-hopped or high-gravity beers drop cleaner in a 70–74° cone. We keep the sidewall-to-diameter ratio near 2:1 to 3:1 depending on your floor footprint.

Materials and fabrication

Product contact surfaces are SUS304 as standard. SUS316L earns its cost when you ferment sour or high-acid beers, or run aggressive caustic cycles. Interior welds are full-penetration, ground flush, then pickled and passivated. Internal finish runs 0.4–0.6 µm Ra mechanical polish; the exterior gets 320-grit satin or mirror polish, depending on how visible the tank is in your taproom.

Cooling and pressure

Dimple or channel jackets on the cone and lower cylinder carry the load during active fermentation, when a 60 HL batch throws serious heat. Glycol at 28–32°F holds 50–54°F for ales and 48–50°F for lagers. Working pressure is typically 15 psi against a 30 psi design rating, and we set the relief valve to match the vessel before shipment. Carbonating in-tank requires that rating — a blow-off tube is not a substitute.

CIP and connections

Rotating spray ball, dedicated CIP port, and full cone drain. The racking arm sits above the yeast layer. Standard ports: DIN or tri-clamp for beer and CIP, tri-clamp or NPT for glycol supply and return, plus sample valve and dry-hop port.

Common questions

How many tanks do I need? Divide your target monthly volume by batch size, then account for cycle time — a lager tying up a tank for three weeks needs more vessels than a 10-day ale.

Can I carbonate in the tank? Yes, if it is pressure-rated and fitted with a carb stone and PRV. Tell us at the quoting stage; retrofitting is possible but costs more.

Do you supply the glycol chiller? We size it against total jacket load, not tank count, and quote it with the vessels so the numbers line up.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
