2000L Conical Fermentation Tank: Built for Breweries That Need Repeatable Fermentation

Most breweries searching for a 2000L unitank are not just looking for capacity—they are solving a temperature control problem. A 20-barrel batch generates significant exothermic heat during active fermentation. Without a properly sized cooling jacket and adequate glycol flow, you get ester spikes, stalled attenuation, and inconsistent batch-to-batch profiles. That is why we build this tank around the jacket first, then the shell, then the fittings.

Material and Fabrication Details

We use 304 stainless steel for the inner shell and 304 for the outer cladding on standard builds. For breweries producing sour or highly acidic beers, we recommend 316L on the product contact side. The cone and dish are pressed, not spun, to maintain consistent wall thickness at the knuckle radius. All product-contact welds are TIG, purged, and ground flush. Passivation follows after pressure testing.

Surface finish on the interior is typically 2B mill finish for fermentation vessels. If you are packaging directly from the tank or producing clear lagers, a 320-grit mechanical polish is available. Exterior cladding gets a No. 4 finish with a protective PVC film during transit.

Cooling, Pressure, and CIP

The dimpled cooling jacket on the cone and lower cylinder provides the larger surface area needed for crash cooling from 68°F to 34°F within 24 hours. We size the jacket based on your glycol supply temperature and batch size—not just tank volume. Working pressure is 15 psi, with a 30 psi test pressure. A top-mounted pressure gauge and adjustable PRV are standard, but we can position them per your piping layout.

CIP is handled through a rotating spray ball on the top manway, with a dedicated CIP port on the racking arm. The racking arm itself is a 1.5-inch tri-clamp assembly with a 90-degree rotation, allowing you to draw clear beer above the yeast bed without opening the tank.

Common Questions

What size glycol chiller do I need? For a single 2000L tank, a 2HP chiller is usually sufficient for ales. If you are running four or more tanks or lagering at 34°F, step up to 5HP or more. We can calculate the heat load based on your batch schedule.

Can I use this tank for both fermentation and bright beer? Yes, but if you are carbonating in the tank, you need a carbonation stone and a higher pressure rating. Specify that at the time of order—we will adjust the PRV and gauge range.

How do I connect the cooling jacket to my glycol loop? We supply the jacket with 1-inch NPT or tri-clamp inlet and outlet, depending on your preference. Solenoid valves and temperature controllers are not included unless specified.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
