Description

A 2 BBL unitank suits a taproom brewing two or three times a week, where one vessel has to ferment, dry hop, and carb. Filled to roughly 62 US gallons, it still leaves headspace for a heavy krausen and a 5 lb hop charge without pushing beer through the relief valve.

Fabrication and materials

Shell and cone are 304 stainless, 2 mm on the body, dished top, 60° cone. We TIG weld with argon purge on the product side, then pickle and passivate the heat-affected zones so the weld doesn\’t become the first place you see pitting. Interior contact surfaces are ground to a sanitary finish; the exterior is brushed, or mirror polished when the tank sits in the taproom. Fittings are tri-clamp throughout: racking arm, 1.5 in dump, sample valve, CIP spray ball in the top, 3 in dry-hop port, and an adjustable pressure relief valve. Working pressure is 1 bar (15 psi), tested at 2 bar, which is enough to carbonate most ales in the tank.

Cooling jacket

A dimpled glycol jacket covers the cone and the lower third of the body. That split is deliberate: cone cooling drops yeast out and holds it during crash cooling, while body cooling carries the heat of active fermentation. Glycol ports are 1.5 in tri-clamp. Insulation is 50 mm closed-cell foam under stainless or aluminum cladding.

Where it fits

Brewpubs, nano breweries, and pilot plants feeding a larger brewhouse. If you package, plan on two or three tanks per brewhouse batch, not one.

FAQ

Can I carbonate in the tank? Yes, at 1 bar working pressure with the PRV set to match. A spunding valve makes it repeatable.

304 or 316L? 304 for standard ales and lagers. Go 316L for sours, high-chloride water, or long fruit contact.

How is cleaning handled? Spray ball plus a CIP pump on the 1.5 in returns. Caustic at 60–80°C, then acid, no disassembly.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
