5 BBL Two-Vessel Brewhouse for Small Craft Production
A 5 BBL brewhouse is usually selected when a brewery needs repeatable 155-gallon batches without moving to a larger three- or four-vessel line. This two-vessel set pairs an SS304 mash tun with a brew kettle. The layout suits a compact brewhouse floor, but it still requires clear access for grain-out, hop additions, whirlpool if configured, and kettle cleaning.
We build the vessels from 304 stainless steel as standard. For breweries with aggressive cleaning regimes or specific chloride concerns, 316L can be reviewed. Shell thickness, cone or dish geometry, and jacket area are set by batch size and heating method. Welds are ground and polished on product-contact surfaces; exterior finishes are chosen for washdown conditions rather than appearance alone. Gaskets, clamps, and sight glass seals should be specified for steam, hot liquor, and CIP chemicals.
Practical Configuration Notes
- Mash tun: false bottom design, grain-out door, sparge arrangement, and raking options depend on batch size and labor plan.
- Brew kettle: direct fire, steam jacket, or electric heating changes the vessel details and utility requirements.
- Piping: hard-piped brewhouse lines reduce operator error, but flexible connections can be useful in tight spaces.
- CIP: spray ball coverage, pump capacity, and drain slope matter more than the number of ports on paper.

FAQ
Can this brewhouse run two brews per day? Yes, with enough hot liquor, wort cooling, and cellar capacity. Brewhouse timing is often limited by whirlpool and cleaning, not the vessels alone.
Do we need a separate whirlpool? If your beer styles rely on late-hop aroma and clear wort, a dedicated whirlpool or kettle whirlpool design should be discussed before fabrication.
