Description
Most 5000L tanks we ship are unitanks or bright beer tanks, and that choice drives jacket layout, manway position, and the pressure rating on the nameplate. Before quoting, we ask what the vessel will hold — cider at 12°C behaves nothing like a soft drink base held at 2°C.
Materials and fabrication
Wetted parts are 304 stainless by default. For cider, fruit wine, or long-contact low-pH products, 316L justifies the extra cost. Internal welds are ground, pickled, and passivated; product contact surfaces are polished to Ra 0.4–0.8 µm, which matters more for yeast removal than for looks. Shell thickness runs 3–4 mm depending on pressure class, insulated with 80–100 mm polyurethane and clad in 304 sheet.
Cooling and temperature control
Glycol jackets are dimple-pressed or channel-welded on the cone and lower cylinder. Two or three zones let you pull the cone down after knockout without over-chilling the whole tank. Jacket area is sized against your glycol supply temperature and target crash time; 4 m² will not take 5000L from 20°C to 2°C overnight.
CIP, connections, and pressure
Each tank carries a rotating CIP spray ball, racking arm, sample valve, dry-hop port, and pressure/vacuum relief valve. Working pressure is usually 1.5 bar, with 3 bar available for carbonation and counter-pressure transfer. PRV setting and shell thickness are specified together — you cannot raise pressure later by swapping the valve.
Typical applications
- Cider and perry fermentation and maturation
- Fruit wine and mead
- Kombucha and fermented soft drink bases
- Bright beverage storage and carbonation

FAQ
Can one tank handle fermentation and bright beer storage?
Yes, if it is rated for 3 bar and fitted with a carbonation stone port. Many small cideries run a single vessel this way and accept the longer tank turnaround.
What glycol temperature do I need?
Most installations run 28–32% propylene glycol at -4°C to -8°C. Colder supply gives faster crashes but costs more in chiller capacity.
How are CIP and glycol lines connected?
Spray ball, jacket, and drain ports are labeled at the factory so your piping contractor can tie them in without guesswork.

Customer Review
We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
