Description

We build this 600L horizontal bright beer tank for microbreweries and brewpubs where ceiling height is tight and floor space is at a premium. The stackable design lets you place two or three units vertically without special lifting equipment, which matters in converted garages or basement operations. The horizontal orientation also reduces the overall footprint compared to a vertical unit of the same volume.

The vessel is made from SUS304 stainless steel, 3mm wall thickness on the shell and 4mm on the dished heads. All welds are full penetration and ground smooth on the product contact side. Interior surface finish is 0.8μm Ra, which is sufficient for bright beer storage and periodic CIP. We use EPDM gaskets on all ports and a water seal on the pressure relief line—this prevents oxygen ingress while allowing CO2 to escape during conditioning.

The double insulated jacket is split into two independent zones: one around the cylindrical body and one on the head. Each zone has its own inlet and outlet, so you can run glycol at different temperatures if needed—though most customers just run both zones at 0–2°C for bright beer. The jacket is filled with polyurethane foam, 60mm thick, giving a total heat loss of less than 0.5°C per 24 hours at ambient 30°C. The outer cladding is brushed stainless steel, not painted, so it won\’t flake or rust in humid environments.

For process connections, we fit a 1.5\” tri-clamp inlet for beer transfer, a 1\” tri-clamp for CIP return, a pressure/vacuum relief valve with water seal, and a sample valve. The tank includes a 0–4 bar pressure gauge and an adjustable pressure relief valve set to 0.5 bar, which is standard for bright beer tanks. If you need a higher working pressure, we can weld a thicker head and use a different relief valve—just tell us your process.

Cleaning is straightforward. The spray ball is fixed at the top, and the drainage port is at the lowest point of the horizontal shell. A standard CIP sequence with caustic and acid will keep the interior clean. We recommend a 30-minute caustic cycle at 80°C, followed by a rinse and a sanitizing pass with PAA. The tank is fully drainable—no dead legs.

This unit is designed for batch sizes of 600L, which suits a 1000L brewhouse with two or three fermenters rotating. It works well for lagers, ales, and ciders, but if you plan to do dry hopping or open fermentation, you\’ll need a different vessel. For pressure fermentation, you\’d want a conical tank with a higher pressure rating—this bright beer tank is only for storage and conditioning.

When you\’re ready to order, send us your batch size, beer type, number of tanks, and available room dimensions. We can recommend the exact jacket configuration, port positions, and stacking frame if you need one. We\’ve shipped these to over 40 countries, so we know the typical inspection and documentation requirements.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

FAQ

Can I ferment in this tank? No, it\’s a bright beer tank. Fermentation produces high pressure and sediment; you need a conical tank with a dump port.

Why two jacket zones? It gives you more even temperature control, especially when the tank is partially filled. You can also run the head zone warmer if you\’re conditioning at a higher temperature.

What is the water seal for? It lets CO2 escape while blocking oxygen. That\’s critical for storing bright beer without oxidation.

Can I stack without a frame? We add a welded lug on the shell and a recess on the bottom. You can stack directly, but a frame is safer for seismic regions.

What cooling media works? Glycol or chilled water. We supply the jacket with 1.5\” tri-clamp fittings, so you connect to your existing glycol loop.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
