Description

What this fermenter is for

This is a jacketed conical fermenter for breweries running repeated batches of ale, lager, or cider. Volume is built to order, from a 100 L pilot unit up to 5,000 L and beyond, so the geometry changes with your batch size and the clear height in your cold room.

How we build it

Shell, cone, and jacket in SUS304 as standard. We move to SUS316L when the product is acidic, when the tank also serves as a bright beer vessel, or when CIP runs hot caustic at higher concentration. The cone is 60 degrees on most orders — steep enough that yeast slides out on a dump instead of parking on the wall. Interior welds are ground and passivated, wetted surfaces polished below 0.4 µm Ra. Exterior stays a #4 finish unless the tank ships insulated and clad.

Cooling comes from a dimple or channel jacket on the cone and lower cylinder, usually rated 0.3 MPa on the glycol side. Tanks are pressure rated 0.2–0.3 MPa depending on your carbonation practice. The relief valve is sized against gas volume, not tank volume, so a spunding setup needs a rating check before commissioning. Insulation and cladding matter more than people expect: an uninsulated 2,000 L tank in a warm room sweats and burns glycol.

Typical specifications

Item Range
Working volume 100–10,000 L, made to order
Material SUS304 / SUS316L, 3 mm shell
Cone 60° standard, 45° or 90° on request
Wetted surface ≤0.4 µm Ra, passivated
Jacket Dimple or channel, glycol in/out, 0.3 MPa
Fittings Tri-clamp racking arm, dry hop port, sample valve, PRV, CIP spray ball
Options PU insulation, stainless cladding, top manway, level sensor

Questions that come up before ordering

Headspace: plan 20–25% free space above the wort. A tank filled to the brim will push krausen into the blow-off arm on a hard fermenting strain.

CIP: a spray ball only works with enough pump flow and pressure at the nozzle. Tell us your CIP pump rating and we size the ball accordingly, otherwise the upper shell stays dirty.

Pilot versus commercial: pilot breweries usually accept a single jacket zone and manual temperature control. Production plants want separate cone and body zones, glycol manifolds, and remote probe ports.

Getting a usable quote

Send your batch size, beer style, number of tanks, and the actual floor footprint with door and ceiling dimensions. That is enough for us to fix volume, jacket area, connection layout, and whether you need a single-zone or dual-zone build. Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
