Description

What a 1000 L conical tank is for

Most breweries at this size are fermenting 600–800 L of wort per batch in a 1000 L vessel, leaving headspace for krausen and dry hopping. Ales finish in five to seven days at 18–20 °C. Lagers need 8–12 °C and several weeks of cold conditioning, which is why jacket area and glycol temperature decide how the tank performs far more than its nominal volume does.

How we build it

The inner shell is 3 mm SUS304, with 316L available for sour programs or aggressive CIP chemistry. Welds are TIG, then pickled, passivated and ground to roughly 0.4 µm Ra on the product side. A dimple jacket covers the cone and the lower cylinder, and 80 mm of polyurethane keeps the glycol load predictable in warm cellars. Cone angle is 60° as standard, 70° when you crop yeast heavily or run fruit additions.

Pressure, cooling and cleaning

Tanks leave the shop rated 0.15 MPa working, hydro-tested at 0.3 MPa, with a spring-loaded PRV set at 2 bar. Glycol enters at the lowest jacket port and exits high, keeping air pockets out of the channels. Cleaning runs through a rotating spray ball on the top manway; the racking arm and sample valve come apart without tools, so CIP solution reaches every wetted surface. Dry hopping port, carb stone and thermowell positions follow your process, not a catalog drawing.

Questions we get before quoting

Can I lager in this tank? Yes, provided your chiller holds glycol near -4 °C and the jacket is not oversized for a 600 L fill. A partially filled tank cools slowly because the liquid line sits below the upper jacket.

How many tanks do I need? Match tank count to your brew schedule, not to your fermenter volume. Two brews per week with a seven-day ale fermentation usually calls for three vessels plus a bright tank.

304 or 316L? 304 handles clean beer and standard CIP. Choose 316L for kettle sours, high-chloride water or acid-heavy cleaning cycles.

Does it arrive ready to connect? We ship with TC ferrules, PRV, pressure gauge and a port layout drawing. You supply glycol hose, clamps and gaskets.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
