Description

Brewhouse sizing starts with the production schedule

A 2,000L to 5,000L brewhouse is often selected when a brewery is moving from pilot batches into scheduled wholesale production. Kettle volume alone does not define the right system. Batch size, brewhouse turns per day, vessel layout, steam or electric heating, and the cellar team’s ability to handle automation all affect the final configuration.

We build these systems as two-vessel or three-vessel lines: mash/lauter, kettle/whirlpool, hot liquor tank, and optional whirlpool or decoction vessels. A 2,500L system may suit a compact taproom brewery with limited utilities. A 5,000L line usually needs more steam capacity, larger wort transfer lines, and a clearer plan for cleaning and maintenance access.

Materials and fabrication details

SUS304 is our standard for brewhouse vessels. Wort-contact areas can use SUS316L where chloride exposure or product requirements justify it. Internal welds are ground and treated as needed, then pickled and passivated to restore corrosion resistance. Surface finish is agreed to a practical Ra range for cleaning, not a cosmetic number that increases cost without process benefit.

Dimple jackets, insulation, cladding, gaskets, tri-clamp fittings, and CIP spray balls are specified around heat load and cleaning access. We check nozzle orientation and drain slope during fabrication because small layout errors become daily operating problems.

Questions we ask before quoting

Do we need automatic control? Automatic brewhouse control helps repeatability and reduces operator load, but it needs clean utility data, reliable sensors, and staff who will use recipes consistently.

Can the system grow later? Adding a vessel or larger HLT is possible if floor space, steam supply, and piping runs are planned now.

What about cleaning? CIP routing, pump capacity, and drain points should be reviewed with the vessel layout. A brewhouse that is hard to clean will lose time every week.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend brewhouse volume, heating method and automation level for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
