Description

What These Tanks Do in a Working Brewery

A fermenting tank does more than hold liquid. It controls yeast activity, protects beer from oxygen, and lets you harvest yeast and dry hop without opening the tank. Bright tanks handle conditioning, carbonation, and serving pressure. Storage tanks hold beer, cider, kombucha, or process water before packaging. We build each tank around batch size, beer style, ceiling height, and utility layout.

Fabrication Details That Affect Beer Quality

Most brewery tanks use SUS304. High-acid or chloride-heavy environments call for 316L. Product-contact surfaces are 2B finish or better, with welds ground and polished to reduce crevice risk. We purge argon on sanitary welds, pressure-test every jacket, and insulate jackets with 80-100 mm polyurethane behind stainless cladding. EPDM or silicone gaskets, DIN or ISO ferrules, sample valves, racking arms, and CIP spray balls are selected by application.

Typical Specifications

Capacity Material Working Pressure Cooling Bottom
5-10 BBL SUS304 0.2 MPa Dimpled jacket 60 degree cone
15-30 BBL SUS304 / 316L 0.2 MPa Dual-zone jacket 60 degree cone
40-100 BBL SUS304 / 316L 0.2-0.3 MPa Multiple jackets Conical or dish

Applications and Selection Notes

Brewpubs often need 5-15 BBL tanks with a single cooling zone and compact footprint. Commercial breweries usually run 20-100 BBL vessels, with separate fermenters, bright tanks, and storage tanks to keep packaging schedules flexible. A conical bottom makes yeast cropping easier. Dish-bottom tanks suit bright beer and storage where yeast recovery is not the priority. Safety valves, pressure gauges, and relief piping must match the working pressure and local code.

FAQ

Why control fermentation temperature? Yeast produces different esters and attenuation at different temperatures. A stable jacket supply keeps the batch repeatable.

How does CIP work? A spray ball or rotary spray head connects through the tank top. Caustic, acid, and sanitizer return through the bottom outlet. Pipe slope and pump sizing matter more than tank size.

Can one tank do fermentation and bright beer? Yes for some ales and small batches. Many breweries still separate them to reduce dry hop and carbonation conflicts.

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
