Description

A 2000L unitank usually becomes the workhorse of a mid-size brewhouse. It is large enough to carry a core lineup through primary and secondary, and still small enough that one person can run a CIP cycle without a ladder and a second set of hands. We build this size as a cylindrical shell with dimple jackets on both the barrel and the cone.

Material and fabrication

Standard material is SUS304 — 3 mm shell, 4 mm cone, 3 mm dished top. Sour programs, high-chloride brewing water, or long-term storage with dry-hopped beer push most customers to 316L on the product-contact side. Internal welds are ground flush, pickled and passivated, then mechanically polished to Ra ≤ 0.8 µm. We dye-penetrant test cone seams on request. That test costs very little up front; a pinhole in a bottom seam costs a lot three weeks after packaging.

We choose dimple plate over coil pipe for a reason: more contact area per liter of beer, lower glycol pressure drop, and no crevices behind a coil where caustic hides. Jackets are welded in a controlled pattern and hydro-tested at 1.5× working pressure.

Pressure, cooling and cleaning

Typical rating is 0.3 MPa on the tank and 0.3 MPa on the jacket. The safety valve and PRV are sized to the vessel, not to the chiller — a 15 psi valve on a tank rated for 45 psi is a mismatch we see often. Cooling is split into two or three zones with separate solenoid valves, so cone temperature can be trimmed independently of the barrel during crash cooling.

The 60° cone, dished top and 400 mm manway keep access simple. Ports include a CIP spray ball on its own line, racking arm, dry-hop port, sample valve, carbonation stone port, and thermowells at three heights so you are not guessing where the stratification sits.

Typical applications

Taprooms moving off 500L pilot tanks, contract breweries running several SKUs in parallel, cider and kombucha producers, and beverage plants doing fermented botanical bases. Kiln-dried insulation and a stainless or aluminum cladding are worth adding if the tank room is not climate controlled.

FAQ

Can I carbonate in the tank? Yes, with a stone port and a jacket zone on the cone. Spundung valves work too if you prefer natural carbonation.

How much head pressure can it take? The rating covers it, but keep the PRV matched to the vessel, not the glycol loop.

Is CIP fully automated? The spray ball and dedicated CIP port support a pump-and-tank cycle; automation depends on your control panel, not the tank.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
