Description

A 6BBL conical fermenter is typically the next step after pilot batches outgrow a 2–3BBL system. At this size, the tank has to do more than hold wort. It becomes the point where temperature control, yeast harvesting, and cleaning routine either support consistency or create bottlenecks. We build these vessels for breweries that need repeatable fermentation without jumping to full-scale production tanks.

The tank body and cone are formed from SUS304 stainless steel, with 316L available for breweries dealing with high-chloride water or aggressive cleaning chemicals. We TIG weld all product-contact seams and fully penetrate them, then pickle and passivate the heat-affected zones. Interior surfaces are polished to under 0.8µm Ra; exterior welds are ground flush for sanitary appearance. The 60-degree cone gives yeast a reliable slide path during dumping, and the 1.5in or 2in tri-clamp bottom outlet is positioned to minimize dead space.

Cooling is handled by dimpled or pillow-plate jackets on the cone and lower cylinder. For a 6BBL tank, we usually specify two independent jacket zones so the cone can be cooled separately during crash cooling. Glycol enters through 1in NPT or tri-clamp connections. A 1.5in dry-hop port, 2in CIP spray ball, and 1.5in racking arm are standard. The top manway is 18in with a clamp lid and pressure relief valve set to the working pressure you specify, typically 15–30psi.

These fermenters suit brewpubs, taprooms, and small production breweries running ales and lagers. They are not intended for high-pressure packaging without additional certification. If you plan to carbonate in-tank, the relief valve and vessel thickness must be matched to that duty.

FAQ

How do I choose between a 6BBL and a 7BBL? Match the tank to your batch size after trub loss. A 6BBL fermenter typically holds 6BBL of finished beer when filled to 85% capacity.

Can I use this tank for lagering? Yes, provided the jacket is sized for the longer cooling cycle and the glycol supply is adequate.

What information do you need for a quote? Batch size, beer type, number of tanks, available ceiling height, and whether you plan to carbonate in-tank.

Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
