Description

When you\’re brewing small batches with serious intent, the fermentation vessel is where the character of your beer is decided. This 2-barrel unitank is built for microbrewers and craft operations that need pressure-rated fermentation, closed transfers, and reliable temperature control in a compact footprint.

We manufacture this tank with a body in SUS304 stainless steel, while the cone and key wetted contact surfaces are available in 316L for better resistance to acidic wash cycles and chloride-bearing cleaning agents. The red copper accents—on the cooling coil or decorative bands—aren\’t just for looks; copper assists in heat exchange and adds trace elements that some brewers believe contribute to yeast health. We weld with a fully automated orbit system, then passivate and pickle the seams. Interior surface finish is Ra ≤ 0.6 µm, which keeps hop residue and protein films from clinging between batches.

The unitank design means you can ferment and condition in the same vessel. A 60° cone angle encourages yeast and trub compaction, and the dump valve makes harvesting or purging straightforward. The tank is rated for 1.5 bar working pressure, so you can naturally carbonate without needing a separate brite tank. A pressure relief valve is fitted as standard, and a sample valve sits at the cone for gravity draw-offs. For cooling, we offer either a single or double zone dimple jacket, paired with an optional glycol control panel—set your ramp rates, and the solenoid valves handle the rest.

Cleaning is handled through a fixed spray ball that covers the entire internal surface. You\’ll need to connect your own CIP cart or pump, but the tank comes with tri-clamp inlets for both CIP and cold liquor lines. The legs are adjustable, which is more useful than it sounds on uneven brewery floors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a unitank different from a standard conical fermenter?
A unitank is pressure-rated, allowing you to carbonate and condition in the same vessel. This saves floor space and reduces product loss from transfers.

Which beers benefit from this tank?
Any ale or lager that needs closed transfers—especially NEIPAs, hazies, and cold-crash-sensitive styles. The 2bbl size suits pilot batches or small-batch specialty runs.

Why is 316L used in the cone?
The cone sees the most aggressive cleaning chemicals and prolonged contact with trub. 316L offers better pitting resistance than 304, extending the tank\’s service life.

Can I ferment under pressure?
Yes, up to 1.5 bar. Use it for pressure fermentation to reduce esters or to naturally carbonate after primary is complete.

What do I need to connect this tank?
A glycol chiller or cold water source, a CO2 tank with regulator, and a CIP pump if you want automated cleaning. All connections are tri-clamp, so you can adapt to your existing hoses.

How do I choose between 304 and 316L?
For standard ales and regular cleaning, 304 is fine. If you use caustic with high chloride levels or do frequent acid washes, go with 316L for the wetted parts.

When you\’re ready to scale up or need a custom configuration, we can adjust the jacket zones, add a sampling port, or change the leg height to match your brewhouse. Tell us your batch size, beer type, number of fermentation tanks and available space. We can recommend the tank volume, cooling area and configuration for your brewery.

Customer Review

We have been using this still for a few batches now making whiskey, gin and a few other spirits and we are very happy with the results so far. The gear works well and gives good control during distillation. The spirit comes out clean and consistent from batch to batch and we have gotten the flavor profile we were looking for. It has also been easy to operate and maintain. It has been a great addition to our distillery and I’d definitely recommend it to other craft distillers looking for reliable equipment.”
